In the name of Allah, The Guide and The Peace
? How much time is left
“We do remember the words of the invigilator in our school tests “ you’ve got 30 minutes left “. It felt like uttering a death sentence or ordering a release.”
Taken from the book “Death Enigma” to the famous author:Mustapha Mahmoud.
Once I’ve read these words, only one sense could cross my mind! It was that question which said:” can anyone of us count how much time is left in his life on earth?
Of course not! Nobody knows when he goes. But what is the point of that wonder?
When it comes to death, I always stop for long and think, how people have stopped learning from their beloved ones’ death?
How this painful part of our life has stopped being a harsh lesson for us to learn from?
When a close family member of us goes, hearts tremble out of grief due to parting, and nowadays, stranger would mourn more than the bloody relatives and then, all papers scatter across our minds at these hard moments, then few days pass and people start moving on searching for their own stakeholders, as for life is like a clock, it never stops for someone’s death whether he is a bloody member of a family or even a stranger one.
Some of us start to look for their share at the expense of the dead person’s family before his blood turns to be cold in his buried body and before his family heal from their sorrow.
So, how death has been routinely conventional?
Is it because we’ve lost many from our dears? Or is it because hearts have changed and they have been exchanged with bricks?
How people have stopped reviewing what they do in their lives?
We just spend seconds in sorrow, never realize that we may be the next, have we prepared ourselves for that?
Death is inside us, it’s in each body cell that dies, in each tear that drops out of our eyes, and it’s in each flower fades. As mentioned in Dr. Mustapha Mahmoud’s book. No wonder that we no longer have that strong reaction to someone’s death anymore.
But all our predecessors had, they used to learn and get warned. Now some people think that the angel of death will never come to take their souls, it’s like they guarantee their long life, like they guarantee that there is A LOT of time left.
I remind myself first exactly like I remind all my dear ones.
Why do we procrastinate what should be done to help us here in this world and in the hereafter?
I don’t speak about those believers who take easy deliberate steps to the right path of Allah, but I speak about those who see that going into speaking about that right path is useless.
When your father asks you to cover this bang that comes out of your hijab, you tell yourself that one day you will cover it but not now, why not now? Why procrastinating? Do you guarantee your time that it’s going to give you the chance to cover it soon?
When your wife asks you to pray, and tells you how vital it is, but you just get side tracked by your cell to finish reading that facebook post, prayer is the first thing that we will be asked about in our graves, don’t you think that your wife’s words were like the caller of the prayer when it calls for keeping that connection between you and Allah SWT the creator going?
And why do you just mock your friend’s word of advice carelessly when he tries to help you quit smoking, and it’s like all those who had gone to the intensive care because of that cursed cigarette before you didn’t realize how much time left, exactly like how you think at this moment?
Allow me to tell a short story about a sheikh “scholar”, he was talking about a man who was an alcohol and dope addict, his wife was a very kind woman, she used to give him advice but he never listened. But now he has repented and totally has changed by Allah’s mercy SWT, you know why?
When he returned home late at dawn, he used to wake his wife up for Fajer prayer and then he went to sleep. One day, he came back home and wanted to wake her up as usual, but she hadn’t responded, Allah took her soul in HIS mercy SWT. From that night onward, he repented to Allah SWT, as the angel of death “Azrael” was just few steps away from him, but HE is Allah SWT who gave him the chance to come back to the creator, should he waste that chance? These were his words.
In Fact, that man never knew how much time left in his life, and no one of us knows how much time left in our lives, and we will never know as this is the wisdom of our creator SWT.
So are we going to learn the moral of all these death incidents that happened around us like that man?
It’s our rational choice, are we going to keep procrastinating as we still have much time left or are we going to think about all these postponed steps we should take?
